WPS District Update - December 2024
Greetings WPS Families:
“It’s the most wonderful time of the year” at the Weston Public Schools. December is a magical month filled with beautiful concerts, art projects, and community service activities. I love visiting our four schools and seeing our staff and students engaged in the joy of teaching and learning. It is a privilege to lead this district where a collective pride is shared in our students’ successes.
On December 16, 2024 the Board of Education held its monthly meeting and discussed safety and security. At that time we announced the formation of a new BOE subcommittee dedicated solely to safety and security which will be chaired by BOE member Michael Guido. Upcoming meetings for this committee can be found on our district calendar. In addition, I am pleased to announce that Mr. James Wiltse will join the district as our new Director of Safety and Security. Mr. Wiltse comes with a wealth of experience in this field. He will begin this position the first week of February. We will be setting up a time for parents to be able to meet Mr. Wiltse after he joins our team.
We were so pleased to welcome a delegation of educators from the Guandong Province of China this month. Our Chinese partnership dates back to 2005 when I first visited our sister school in Qingdao, China. Over the years, different delegations of educators and students have visited our schools, and we also sent WHS teachers and students to Qingdao. Hosting these delegations offers a unique opportunity to share ideas, celebrate cultural exchange, and showcase the incredible work happening across our district. The visiting teachers expressed their admiration for the innovative programs, student engagement, and dedicated staff they observed in our four schools. These visits reaffirm the value of global collaboration in education. We look forward to furthering these meaningful connections in the years to come! In closing, this upcoming break is a great time to step away from the bustle of our busy days, recharge, and focus on spending time with family and friends. On behalf of our entire district, I wish you all a break filled with rest, happiness, and the chance to make memories that you will treasure for years to come.
