The mission of the Learning Resource Center is to provide a facility and staff that encourage and help all our patrons to become effective users of information in all its forms as well as to provide quality reading materials to entertain and challenge our patrons. Our curriculum is designed to introduce the information literacy and technology skills students need to be productive in the dynamic technological environment of the 21st century. This curriculum is delivered in both stand alone lessons and in collaborative lessons with the technology teachers and mentor and the classroom teachers. During scheduled classes, research projects, and visits for recreational materials, students and staff learn to locate, assess, and use text, digital media, and video materials to find answers, develop questions and create new knowledge.
The Learning Resource Center houses 27,000 print volumes, 37 periodical subscriptions, videos, and DVDs. The library is fully automated with 12 online computers and 23 wireless laptops for student use, a production room containing 2 Mac computers, and video-on-demand. The Destiny catalog (OPAC) connects students throughout the school with the in-house resources plus web sites that have been selected for this age student. Grolier Online is a subscription database available to our patrons both at school and at home (check with the Library Media Specialist for the password).
