HES LRC (Learning Resource Center)
The biggest classroom in our whole school is the Learning Resource Center (LRC) in the Jean I. McNeill Center House. This huge space is open every day from 8:30 until 3:15. During your class visits to the LRC, you may listen to a story, learn how to find books or magazines, check out books to take home, or work on special projects. At other times, you may visit by yourself or with a few friends. The LRC is usually open during recess times. If you get permission from your teacher, you can visit the Learning Resource Center to read, do research, watch videos, and even search the Internet for information. If you visit without your teacher, and the LRC teachers are working with other groups of children, we ask you to show your respect for them by working in a responsible way.
The Learning Resource Center has a parent and professional book collection covering many educational and parenting topics. You are free to browse through these materials and borrow them. Also, the LRC relies heavily on parent volunteers to help students check books in and out. Please contact the PTO LRC Coordinators if you would like to volunteer in this exciting learning center.
We also enjoy inviting anyone who is professionally linked to reading, writing, publishing, illustrating, etc., to give presentations to our students in the LRC. If you are in such a field, or know someone who is, consider sharing those special talents with our kids through an LRC presentation.
