Dear WPS Staff and Families,
In the last two days, many in the region have learned of a newly proposed bill in Hartford, Proposed Bill # 45: AAC The Creation of Regional School Districts, sponsored by Senator Looney, which would regionalize multiple local districts, including Weston, Wilton, and Norwalk. This potential bill is premature and requires in depth analysis prior to being formally considered. I know that area superintendents and district administrators are working to optimize (be effective and efficient) all resources (financial, human and time). This bill, while claiming to advance efficiency, likely would not, and, instead, would undermine the effectiveness of the school districts forced to combine into a regional entity. Simply put, we have to be both efficient and effective with all public resources, but a wholesale leap to regionalization at this time is not only unwise, but imprudent and would likely undermine our high quality system.
At this point, I do not anticipate strong support for this proposed bill. I hope this update and perspective is helpful.
