Subject: Parent Resources - Coping During the Pandemic Learning Session
I hope this email finds you all well. Earlier this school year, Weston Public Schools continued our commitment to social and emotional learning by partnering with Dr. Alec Miller, Co-Founder of Cognitive Behavior Consultants, on learning and implementing the principles of Dialectical Behavior Therapy within our district. This partnership has included extensive work with our staff and we have helped students learn these important skills across a variety of settings this school year, including health classes, advisory periods, school-wide counseling lessons, individual and small group counseling, to name a few. When we started this work at the beginning of the year we did know how important these skills in emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and coping, as examples, would be for all of us this year.
To that end, Dr. Alycia Dadd, CBC’s Director of Consultation Services, will be providing a parent information session on how we can apply specific DBT skills to manage and cope during this pandemic. She will focus on concrete strategies to strike a balance between our home/work lives, increase student engagement, and practice both acceptance and validation to manage in these unprecedented times.
