The Weston High School Independent Study Program is open to all who have the desire, interest, maturity, and organizational skills necessary to pursue a comprehensive, self-directed course of study. The program offers qualified students the opportunity to pursue advanced or topical studies outside of the existing high school curriculum. Independent Study Credit cannot be given for studies already incorporated in the Weston High School Program of Studies, even if a course is dropped due to enrollment or staffing. Also, Independent Study cannot be given for classes where credit or instruction from another institution is involved. In these cases, students can arrange for guidance to attach the outside institution’s transcript to their Weston transcript.
The Independent Studies Committee is responsible for approving a proposed project, and in concert with the faculty advisor, determining the amount of credit.
Please note, Independent Study is for credit only. No grade is awarded. Credit cannot be applied towards a graduation requirement.
Students should begin working on their applications, with their faculty advisor, well in advance of the due date. It is likely that your faculty advisor will have suggestions for revising your application, before he or she will approve it.
