WEB-Based applications run on your WEB Browser and do not required special hardware or special computers to use them. The application and data are stored at the server and not on the computer you are using to access it. As a result, you can start an assignment in school, continue it after school, perhaps at a friend's house, and then complete it once you get home! All without having to move the data anywhere else, or needing to worry about whether you had the application program at home!
A VPN, or Virtual Private Network, is a mechanism for allowing you secure access to the Weston Schools network from outside of the School District. It is only available for Teachers and other staff members with appropriate authorization from the IT Department. You will download a client application which will encrypt all data transmitted to the school network and decrypt all data coming from the school network. Once connected, you will have access to your files on the file server as if you were at school.
Please watch for updates as we roll out these new features.
